Northern New South Wales is impressively scenic with rolling valleys, the blunt peak of Mount Warning and quaint rural towns with interesting histories. If you are heading in the direction of this region, here are some creative suggestions for experiencing the rich tapestry of art and culture in the area.

Tweed Regional Gallery
Not only is this modern gallery a house for expertly curated exhibitions, interesting workshops and a visual tribute to famous artist Margaret Olley, it rests so beautifully in the emerald green hills of the Tweed. It’s a pleasant drive to get there and ever so tempting to spend an hour with a coffee and a bite to eat in the onsite restaurant.

Mist Gallery
This hidden gem of a gallery is located on the main strip of Cabarita Beach. It appears unobtrusive from the street but it hosts exhibitions from an impressive line up of talented local artists and is well worth a visit.

M-Arts Precinct
Heading to Murwillumbah is local favourite, M-Arts Precinct. This interesting creative hub is home to several artisans who sell their creations from small studio spaces. From jewellery makers to paper makers, you will be sure to find a unique gift or treasure to take home. Monthly life drawing sessions are held here as well.

Northern Rivers Community Gallery
Also worth a visit in Ballina is the community gallery. Four exhibition spaces are hired by community artists to show their artwork. With an eight week rotation, there is always something interesting to view.
